A Field Research Study of the Holt School Mathematics Program (1977-1978).
Holt, Rinehart and Winston (School Department) sought to investigate the effectiveness of the Holt School Mathematics 1978 program in developing student achievement growth in mathematics. A field study during the 1977-1978 school year involved assessing teacher and student reactions and pre/post analysis of achievement. Results include: teachers agree that the 3-part approach (display-development-drill) is effective; students generally understand the program material after teacher instruction and exercise practice; and students have demonstrated a large movement to higher national quantities on post-tests.
