Writing Individualized Assessment Reports in Special Education: A Resource Manual.

The four-section manual provides resource materials for writing individualized assessment reports in the field of special education. The first section discusses the purpose and outcomes of the assessment process. In section two the functions of assessment are explored including a statement of the need for a clear, concise assessment reporting; and an overview of assessment from the perspective of placement and programing decision-making. Section three gives a suggested format for a step-by-step approach, and several practice exercises to improve assessment writing. The final section discusses the law and the assessment process, listing the requirements of Public Law 94-142 pertaining to assessment functions. Appended are a paper entitled "A Further Exploration of the Two Purposes of Assessment", and an annotated bibliography. (PHR)
