An interdisciplinary "Coordinated Quarter of Mass Media Studies," instituted at Bowling Green State University with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, is the subject of this paper. The first part of the paper tells how instructors from the subject areas of popular culture, psychology, sociology, speech communication, and political science worked together to plan the program, in which students were required to enroll in two of four core courses as well as in a team-taught "Coordinated Seminar of Mass Media Studies." The paper then provides general information about the program and presents syllabi and information about the specific texts and student requirements for the seminar and for two courses offered as part of the program: "Television as Popular Culture" and "The Electric Media," a course that focused on media theory. It also presents an evaluation of behavioral changes produced in students who took the "Television as Poular Culture" course, results of a student-completed open-ended questionnaire on the mass media seminar, and a selected bibliography of works used in the program.
