Proceedings of the Conference on Education in the Community College for the Non-Traditional Student, Community College of Philadelphia, March 30-31, 1978.
Philadelphia Community Coll., PA.
The items in this report represent the proceedings of a national conference that explored ways in which community colleges can serve the nontraditional student. The report contains the program for the two-day conference, a list of the participants and their addresses, and excerpts from speeches on the following topics: assessing past performance of the community college; ways to help students with poor reading and writing skills; and an evaluation of community college education. Another address, on the future of community college education and the needs of adult learners, is included in its entirety. Selected panel presentations are summrized in outline form and deal with these questions: Have the student services of the community college provided for the successful development of the nontraditional student? What course content and modes of instruction will be required to meet the needs of the future community college student? and, Should the changing community college require special programs? The report also includes summaries of ten workshops on a variety of topics, including ways to meet the needs of foreign students and the handicapped, possible solutions to specific teaching problems, and methods for evaluating the effectiveness of particular programs.
