The development and implementation of a comprehensive career education curriculum was the major purpose of a project conducted in the Cashmere and Peshastin-Dryden School Districts (Washington), K-12. The objectives of the project were divided into the following eight work areas: curriculum development; curriculum installation; advisor/advisee program installation; survival skills implementation; coordination of school and community resources; documentation and evaluation; dissemination; and project management. Due to lack of funding, alterations had to be made, but plans for the continued development of a comprehensive career education curriculum were made within the confines of limited local resources. Baseline data and evaluation techniques were accomplished during the first year by a third-party evaluation team. The evaluators interviewed teachers involved in the project activities, project staff, students, and administrators. Overall, responses were supportive of the activities and favorable. An instrument was utilized to assess school characteristics as perceived by students. Selected classes in both districts were given a questionnaire to survey occupational and educational aspirations and expectations of students. The purpose of these instruments was to collect descriptive data for program planning. A semantic differential survey was administered to a small sample of students to assess specific as well as general attitudes. The data were tabulated with hopes that a revised instrument could be used in subsequent school evaluation. (BM)
