Career Education staff development activities were conducted by Oregon's Interinstitutional Consortium for Career Education in three phases: (1) staff development for college and university faculties (reported here); (2) program development for teacher, counselor, and administrator preparation; and (3) teacher certification and training program accreditation. (CE 019 417 reports on activities conducted in all three phases during the project's second year of operation; CE 019 260 provides a final report of the third year of operation.) A cadre approach was used to accomplish the first phase. Cadre members were selected at fourteen of the consortium institutions and were prepared through a series of three statewide development workshops. Each cadre then assumed the responsibility for planning activities which would prepare other faculty members for infusing career education into personnel preparation programs on their campus. Institutional staff development activities were encouraged and aided by an "award" provided to each institution that submitted a short-range plan for staff development. (Long-range plans for the infusion of career education into educational preparation programs, phase 2, are included.) Responses to the workshops indicated (1) that most participants gained a better understanding of the topics covered; (2) that participants expressed intentions to implement methods or materials introduced in the workshop within the next year; and (3) that participants felt generally involved in the workshop activities.
