Charette: Planning and Educational Priorities. A Summary Report.

An outline of the proceedings of a conference to plan the educational priorities of the Maricopa County (Arizona) Community College District and the subsequent report to the governing board are presented. Task force groups focused on the role of Maricopa Technical Community College in the district; the role of the district in statewide postsecondary education; occupational education from the institutional point of view; the student's perspective on occupational education; the role of general education and transfer education; efforts and problems in developmental education; the role of student services; and use of potential and available fiscal resources. Policy statements express the need for decision-making, budgetary commitments, and timetables for implementing plans in areas of: (1) student retention; (2) attracting new clientele; (3) ongoing assessment and identification of the client groups to be served; (4) improving delivery systems; (5) program of community involvement; (6) delineation of functions and responsibilities of the board, administration, faculty, and staff; (7) increased resource for staff development; (8) funding new concepts; (9) developing a process of evaluation; (10) improved communications; and (11) providing better service.
