A Model for Planning Programs in Faculty Development.
Anderson, John; North, Joan
Ideas for putting the principles of faculty development into program form are discussed. The pitfalls of faculty development efforts are examined: the frustration of false expectations, the problem of fully integrating the program into the college community, the challenge of maintaining program momentum over time, and the inability to secure or maintain administrative support. The program planning process described is designed to avoid these problems. It has four phases: gathering and analyzing information, developing realistic goals, implementing activities, and developing assessment procedures. The last phase, in turn, provides for gathering information and returning to the first phase, to again begin the process. A diagram and brief bibliography are provided. (MSE)
