This bibliography is divided into eight subsections. The first section lists articles on community schools and schools without walls. The second encompasses the effects of alternative education. Student attitudes, academic achievement, and parental reaction are some of the variables assessed in the articles in this section. The third section is on evaluation of alternative schooling and presents both formal and informal assessment models. A brief mention of the peculiar requirements of alternative schooling in regard to facilities is made in the fourth section. Free schools, sometimes termed storefront schools or street academies, are the subject of the fifth section. The sixth section examines the need for alternative education and the specific goals that it can achieve. Section seven deals with open education. The final section is an introduction to some facets of program development in alternative education. Once the decision is made to opt for alternative education and the goals are set, these articles can provide guideposts in program construction. (Author/IRT)
