This curriculum guide was developed to help teachers from pre-school through secondary grade levels provide an interdisciplinary approach to teaching nutrition. This guide begins with eleven instructional units, varying from two to twenty pages in length, on basic nutrition and other selected topics. Each unit includes some or all of the following: rationale, topic, and behavioral objectives correlated with suggested student learning activities. The eleven units are as follows: (1) nutrition and the pre-schooler, (2) nutrition in the elementary grades (includes mathematics, social studies, language arts, and science and health), (3) mini nutrition unit for middle schools, (4) nutrition and social studies-secondary level, (5) nutrition and physical fitness, (6) nutrition and home economics, (7) food additives, (8) fad diets, (9) nutrition labeling, (10) nutrition and the single adult, and (11) snack food sense. Then follow thirteen one-to-two-page case studies of typical nutritional problems encountered by students. Each case study consists of a brief description of the case situation followed by six to eleven questions regarding the case. A brief discussion of student evaluation and a list of available resources conclude this guide. (EM)
