Nineteen tables are presented, together with a brief discussion, showing the results of the College Entrance Examination Board's 1978 Admissions Testing Program, including Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), achievement tests, and Test of Standard Written English (TSWE) score distributions, and results of the Student Descriptive Questionnaire. A number of comparisons are made between male and female college applicants and between current and previous data. Data are given for over one million students, about one-third of all high school seniors and two-thirds of all college applicants. Tables and discussions cover the following topics: (1) scores for the SAT, the TSWE, and the Achievement Tests; (2) the high school record including self-reported grades, number of years of study by subject, class rank, and grade average; (3) socioeconomic background including ethnic group, annual income, and estimated parental financial contribution; and (4) college plans including degree-level goals, needs for special assistance, intended areas and specific fields of study, advanced placement participation, housing preferences, and extracurricular activities in high school and plans for college.
