Career-Sex-Race Analysis Kit.
Britton, Gwyneth
This kit for sex/race/career analysis provides educators and parents with an appropriate tool for objectively documenting the existence or absence of sex, race, or career bias in reading, literature, and social science curriculum. These procedures may also be used to document the portrayal of other characters, such as the aged, single parent families, the handicapped, and farmers. The evaluation focuses on two criteria: (1) number of major characters by sex and race; and (2) number and name of careers or occupations by sex and race. Racial minorities include blacks, native Americans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, and non-identifiable other (including Alaskan Indians and Hawaiians). Sample analysis forms are included, with instructions for recording and analyzing the data. Summary forms, to be used for textbook series, are also included. (Author/GDC)
