Navajo Biographies. Volume II.
Johnson, Broderick H.; Hoffman, Virginia
The second of two volumes, this collection contains biographies of seven Navajo men and women chosen to represent Navajo leadership in the twentieth century. Originally appearing in a 1970 publication of the Rough Rock Demonstration School, the biographies appear here unchanged in order to make them available once again. In addition to the life stories, which are interspersed with portraits, drawings, and photographs, the volume contains a letter to Navajo students stressing the importance of learning about their heritage, a bibliography, a pronunciation guide for Navajo and Spanish words used, and a description of the approach to education at Rough Rock Demonstration School--one which emphasizes Navajo language and culture. The biographies in this volume are of Sam Ahkeah, Albert George Chic Sandoval, Paul Jones, Chaba Davis Watson, Annie Dodge Wauneka, Dr. Taylor McKensie, and Raymond Nakai. (RS)
