Statistical Study of Higher Education in Europe, 1970-1975.
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, Bucharest (Romania). European Centre for Higher Education.
Statistical data are presented on trends in higher education from 1970-1975 in 35 European countries and the United States and Canada. A general analysis of student enrollment is provided from the point of view of its overall development, the relations of the numbers to the total population, part-time students, and enrollment by sex. The study considers the distribution of students by age and education ratios, and the distribution of numbers by program levels and branches of study. Data on foreign students are also included. Appended are three detailed statistical tables giving all available data for each country from 1970 to 1975 on: teaching personnel and student numbers by types of institutions, the distribution of students and graduates according to the level of programs and fields of study. Information is included on the United States, Canada, and Israel since UNESCO has included them in the Europe region. (SW)
