The final report documents activities of a 3-year child abuse and neglect demonstration unit in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The history of the project is reviewed along with the following project components: organization/staffing, case identification, coordination, community education, professional development, case management, research and evaluation, and staff training. Operational problems are cited, including slowness in receiving referrals, limitations of office space, administrative delays, and lack of community resources. Progress toward project objectives is analyzed, project management and worker satisfaction are evaluated, and client data (flow and characteristics) are examined. The impact on the community is considered in such areas as development of community resources, education and public awareness, and community system coordination. A final section briefly covers resource allocation and service volume and costs. (CL)
