Teacher-Student Interaction in Special Education Classrooms.
Dembo, Myron H.; And Others
Teacher behavior and expectations and teacher-student communication patterns were investigated among urban and suburban teachers of educable mentally retarded and educationally handicapped (emotionally maladjusted and learning disabled) students. Classroom observers recorded teacher-student interaction using a version of the Brophy-Good observation system. The results indicated that both groups of teachers tend to maximize success by aiming low-level questions to specific students, use reinforcement and positive feedback, do not differ in their questioning behavior, and do not appear to exhibit differential communication to students with varying characteristics.
