A Resource Compendium and Profile of the Rumson-Fair Haven Senior Elective Program.
The Rumson-Fair Haven Senior Elective Program encourages high school students to complete graduation requirements early enough to leave the senior year free for relaxed investigation of a number of topics through elective courses and independent study. The incorporation of such concepts as open-space teaching, the open campus, work experience opportunities, and minicourses has helped the program succeed in the views of both teachers and students, as revealed through a series of interviews. This document consists of two parts: a review of student and teacher attitudes toward different aspects of the program and a listing of 76 minicourses that is designed to give educators an overview of the program curriculum. Information included in the course listing includes course content, teaching styles and student parameters, evaluation methods, scheduling requirements, and texts. (Author/PGD)
