British Columbia Reading Assessment 1977; Report 1: Test Results.
Evans, Peter; And Others
The first segment of a two-part general report of a province-wide reading assessment program in British Columbia, this report describes and analyzes the reading test results of students in grades 8 and 12 in the domains of word meaning identification, comprehension of prose, applied reading, and study skills. The chapters of the report provide information on the background of the assessment program, define the domains and objectives of the study, and consider the test results for each domain for each of the grades tested. Interlevel results for grades 4, 8, and 12 and an analysis of test results as a function of student characteristics are included. Eight appendixes provide the following information: the contributors to the reading assessment; persons on the review panels; the schools that participated in the pilot study; the assessment timetable; the results of the reading assessment as interpreted by the panel; detailed item results and provincial results; a summary of recommendations; and the grade 8 and 12 test booklets used in the program.
