Freedom For Individual Development: School/Community Relations.
Powell, Margaret H.
This inservice training module is designed to sensitize participants to the prevalence of role sterotyping and the manner in which sterotypes are perpetuated in our social institutions. It is intended for presentation to mixed groups of parents, educators, and community members. It may also be used by high school students. The module consists of materials for use in a two-and-one-half hour program. Instructions for conducting workshop activities are included at appropriate places throughout the module. The program is divided into two units, the first dealing with gaining a perspective on role sterotyping and the second with acquiring an individual perspective on the issues. Each unit contains: (1) an overview including the methods, rationale, objectives, list of materials, and time limit; (2) instructions for workshop activities; and (3) all handouts utilized. Persons with direct responsibility for the education of youth, and citizens concerned with effecting constructive social responses to the problems and needs of all community members can make use of this module.
