This manual supplements previous guides to the use of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE). It provides sufficient detailed information about the GREs to permit measurement specialists and institutional researchers, as well as faculty members and administrators, to understand the development of the tests and to evaluate their usefulness. Chapters include: (1) A Brief Historical Review of the Graduate Record Examinations; (2) Purposes and General Characteristics of the Aptitude Test and Advanced Tests; (3) Development of the Aptitude Test; (4) Development of the Advanced Tests; (5) Statistical Methods and Analyses of the Graduate Record Examinations; and (6) Validity of the Graduate Record Examinations.
