Reported are the results of a survey on preservice elementary mathematics teacher education conducted by the Commission on the Education of Teachers of Mathematics of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The Commission surveyed over 350 teacher education institutions in the United States and over 20 in Canada. The purpose of the survey was to ascertain the status of preservice mathematics teacher education programs in North America. The document contains the survey instrument and reports the frequency of each response on each item. The survey instrument has seven major categories: admission, elementary mathematics major, mathematics content preparation, mathematics teaching methods preparation, other professional education courses, student teaching, and general information.
