An Information System for Career Counseling and Guidance in the Health Fields: Some Considerations for Planning.
Wright, Robert B., Jr.
Career information needs to be systematized for individual understanding and use, structured at a rate and depth harmonious with the individual's development, and presented or displayed in a manner facilitating selection of pertinent information. This report presents some of the more salient characteristics of an information system which would facilitate appropriate decision-making by supporting, or intervening with, a valid career counseling process. It is suggested that the five principal components of the content of the total system should be: (1) possible career directions (plus typical qualifications and training, physical requirements, temperament), (2) training facilities available (plus entry requirements and average costs), (3) funds or other assistance for study, (4) manpower predictions shaped in terms of average preparation time-frame, and (5) comprehensive counseling.
