Colorado Guidance and Counseling Handbook for School Counselors.
Rupert, Dorothy
This handbook is designed to stimulate thought about guidance programs, and to assist Colorado counselors, teachers and administrators in fulfilling their guidance responsibilities to the public. A brief history and the philosophical bases of guidance and counseling are presented, as well as a description of professional counselor organizations and significant trends and issues. The elements of school guidance and counseling programs at the elementary, middle, and senior high school levels are outlined, with particular focus upon goals and objectives at each level. Considerable emphasis is placed upon program development, including such activities as counselor involvement in career and life planning, peer counseling programs, counselor as consultant, and guidance paraprofessional. Program evaluation is stressed, and possible methodology included. This handbook can serve as a reference and guideline for counselors, other school personnel, and community people as they work together to meet student needs. (KA)
