The following information is included: a brief history of the trucking industry; descriptions of types of carriers; general discussions of educational and training requirements and career development opportunities within the trucking industry; a list of addresses of state trucking associations which are affiliated with the American Trucking Association, Inc.; a photographic tour of activities in a typical common carrier terminal; glossaries of "trucking jargon" and standard trucking terminology; and a bibliography of materials on recent employment developments and outlook for the occupations in this industry. A major portion of this document contains detailed job descriptions of eighteen different occupations within the trucking industry. Each job description includes a brief definition of the occupation; a discussion of education, training, and experience requirements; and a summary of worker traits characteristic of that occupation.
