Development for Independent and Group Learning in a Core Curriculum. Final Project Report.

The Department of Nursing of St. Anselm's College undertook a project designed to improve the curriculum and instructional design of the nursing program. The general objective was to develop and revise learning packages by providing supportive and technical assistance to the faculty. The following tasks were accomplished: development of learning packages for courses; providing resources for faculty role change from content providers to facilitators of learning; planning and implementation of learning environments and materials; improvement of management systems in the instructional media center; sharing project process and products with staff members of other regional schools of nursing; and providing for external evaluation which would collect, organize, analyze, and report data relative to achieving the other tasks. Factors that influenced project outcomes included planning by the faculty, technical assistance, change strategies, performance budgeting, staff development, comprehensive evaluation, project management and coordination. A plan for continuing activities related to the project is included. Appendices include an introductory learning package for faculty, titles of learning packages, titles of programs produced locally, titles of computer programs adapted to the college, and a survey of student attitudes regarding the revision of the learning packages.
