Classroom Reading Specialist Program. Year-end Report. Volume IV.
Evans, Martha; And Others
As the last of a four volume final report of a Right to Read preservice, competency-based modular reading specialist project, this volume presents the module outlines for components 10 through 14 of the classroom program. Component 10 (process--theory and practice) stresses the difference between theories of teaching reading and actual classroom experience. The purposes of Component 11 (research and measurement) are to familiarize the student with research relevant to the various aspects of reading instruction, to acquaint students with the fundamentals of research design, to help students recognize faulty research, and to facilitate competence in minimum measurement capabilities. Component 12 (survival skills) covers classroom discipline, job hunting, facilitating change, and individual and group relations skills. Component 13 (Microteaching) stresses skills such as presentation, silence, reinforcement, and questioning in the context of video-taped classroom sessions. The final component (14) is designed to raise student awareness in the areas of racism and sexism. Each component is organized according to module, rationale, objectives, learning activities and alternatives, indicators of student input, and evaluation criteria. (MAI)
