Part of a series of instructional outlines intended for use in a training program for firemen with no previous formal training, this curriculum guide discusses the emergency treatment of thermal, chemical, and electrical burns. The topics covered are as follow: (1) evaluation of the degree and extent of the burn; (2) shock, its signs and treatment; (3) principles of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; (4) types of burns; (5) first aid for burns both generally and by specific types; and (6) special warnings for burn care. Lectures, discussions, charts, diagrams, demonstrations, and films are suggested as teaching methods for the course. Both a pretest and posttest are included as well as a bibliography. (ELG)
