Pedagogic Devices Relevant to Staff Training in Specialist Techniques.
Foxen, Tom
Education of mentally handicapped children involves developing specialist teaching methods, assessment instruments, and curricular objectives. The need for staff to use behavior modification techniques has shifted the emphasis from child training to staff training techniques. Pedagogic devices used to train staff may reflect the behavioral model including shaping, reinforcement, and social modeling. However, a psychodynamic view emphasizing symbolic play can also describe the devices used. Approaches involving advice on curriculum or room management changes are alternatives to staff training in teaching. Success by the trainee in using a new approach must be a fundamental objective.
