California State Dept. of Education, Sacramento. Bureau of School Apportionments and Reports.
Statistics on the California school system presented in this publication are prerequisites to the determination of policy at the state and local levels. This publication lists the number of pupils, teachers, and schools in the California school system and associated programs in the 1976-77 school year. It also records the expenditures of public funds needed to educate the 4.3 million students in public elementary schools and high schools in that year. The educational statistics in this publication are diverse and widely ranging. Part 1 presents such information as number of districts and schools, school lunch program participation, breakfast program participation, and total milk consumption in the California educational system. Part 2 records facts concerning teachers and pupils, including teacher salaries, number of full-time equivalent employees, public school enrollments for fall of 1975 and 1976, and private school enrollments from 1974 to 1976. Part 3 concerns public school revenues, assessed valuation figures, revenue limits, bond elections, tax rates, and numbers of textbooks. Part 4 records public school general fund expenditures.
