Preparatory and Career Development Programs for the Educational Facilities Specialist. A Special Committee Report.
McGuffey, Carroll W.
This manuscript reports the results of the work of a committee appointed by the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI) to deal with ways of providing opportunities for the orientation and training of school administrators, facility planning specialists, facility managers, educational planners, and education oriented groups such as school board members. The first section states the need to familiarize general administrators with concepts, principles, and acceptable practices in comprehensive educational planning, educational facilities planning, and educational facilities management. This is followed by suggested course descriptions, goals and topics for familiarization courses for general administrators and practitioners in comprehensive educational planning, educational facilities planning, and educational facilities management. Needed competencies of the two types of school plant specialists--the school plant management specialist and the school facilities planning specialist--and a program of study for each with course descriptions are presented. Suggestions are made regarding a continuing program of career development for educational facilities specialists. The final section provides suggestions for a systematic orientation program for lay and related professional groups including preservice and inservice training for architects. (Author/MLF)
