Massachusetts Educational Assessment Program. Consumer Skills and Values 1976-1977.
Massachusetts State Dept. of Education, Boston.
The Massachusetts Statewide Educational Assessment in Consumer Education covers six content areas: borrowing, buying, investing, planning, protecting, and sharing. Nine year old and seventeen year old students were selected from various kinds of communities, six regions of the state, and from varying family occupational backgrounds. Both male and female students were assessed on knowledge, understanding, and values. Testing methods included pencil and paper instruments, simulated consumer negotiations for 17 year olds, and structured interviews for the 9 year olds. A selected sample of parents were also interviewed in terms of their interests, concerns, and problems related to consumer issues. Data were collected on children's consumer related course material, television viewing, reading, and attitude toward school. Results of the tests and surveys and test items are included. (Author/CTM)
