Postsecondary Education Enrollment Trends, Forecast, and Issues in Washington: 1970-1990.
Brinkerhoff, David B.; Walker, John R.
Enrollment in postsecondary education in the state of Washington is examined. A series of tables and charts compare selected enrollment-related variables among the 50 states. These variables include: total enrollment, degree credit enrollment by level, educational attainment, source of students, tuitions and fees, faculty tenure and salaries, and state appropriations for postsecondary education. A statistical analysis is made of enrollment growth patterns in Washington's institutions of higher education since 1971. This is followed by an analysis of the effects of demographic changes and changes in the enrollment participation rate on future (1970-1990) enrollment in higher education in the state. Specific long-range policy issues that result from the present condition of postsecondary education in the state of Washington are described, as well as long-range enrollment trends. The appendices contain: a description of postsecondary institutions in Washington in terms of location, history, organizational structure, mission, roles, activities, and current enrollment characteristics; and a summary report of the workshop on long-range enrollments in postsecondary education in Washington.
