Selecting Student Jurors for Evaluating Teachers.
Slawski, Carl
Since data from student evaluations of teachers are too often treated as though they were based upon superficial opinion surveys, this paper suggests a policy for evaluating teachers. The policy amounts in part to a method of jury selection, the jury being the student raters of a course. Several control variables with questionnaire items are listed that should be used in order to obtain more valid interpretations of student evaluations. The more sophisticated data so gathered can then be used by administrators, policy makers, and teachers for making course evaluations for teaching improvement as well as promotional decisions. The Learning Evaluation form is appended. (Author/LBH)
