Fire in Your Life: A Catalog of Flammable Products & Ignition Sources.
Consumer Product Safety Commission, Washington, DC.
To reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by fires, this catalog (which is part of the Hap and Hazard Series) gives information about typical accident patterns and about the safest way to purchase, use, store, maintain, and dispose of flammable products. As a reference source, it is intended for use in formal teaching situations as well as in informal situations such as business and social groups. Ten topics are covered, as follows: (1) electricity which presents the hazards of shock and fire; (2) combustion and explosive mixtures and their chemical reactions; (3) matches; (4) space heaters, their various types and dangers; (5) extension and replacement cords and how to interpret their electrical ratings; (6) flammable fabrics, their various types and federal legislation governing their use; (7) ovens and cooking ranges; (8) fireplaces; (9) flammable liquids such as alcohol, turpentine, kerosene, and gasoline; and (10) lighters. Quizzes, games, graphic illustrations, autobiographical experiences, and lists of do's and don'ts or haps and hazards are included throughout the ten chapters. In the appendix is a list of sources for more information. (ELG)
