The instructional material in this fifth of 6 units is directed to the 9th graders of the Oglala Sioux people. The contents focus on government--familial, tribal, and Federal. Discussions include family relationships, community leaders, council meetings and membership, policing of the camps by warriors, and warrior and chief's societies. The Federal-Indian policy of reservation government; the Federal Agent's role in working among the Oglala Sioux; the State and Federal laws and their effect on the Oglala Sioux; the contemporary origin and structure of the Oglala Sioux tribal government; and the constitution and by-laws of the Oglala Sioux tribe of the Pine Ridge Reservation are also described.
