This publication is the result of a detailed task analysis study of the ornamental horticulture industry in New York State. Nine types of horticulture businesses identified were: (1) retail florists, (2) farm and garden supply store, (3) landscape services, (4) greenhouse production, (5) nursery production, (6) turf production, (7) arborist services, (8) wholesale florists, and (9) golf courses. Specific suggested uses of the task data in this publication include: (1) describing the nature and requirements of tasks to prospective employees who express an interest in horticulture, (2) assisting prospective employees to realistically assess their qualification for and interest in, the performance of horticulture tasks, (3) guiding worker recruitment from the employment service, and/or other sources based on tasks to be performed on the job, and (4) providing a direct basis for development of performance objectives.
