The shortage of engineers in Israel and the role that the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology plays in the education of engineers is discussed. Emphasis is placed on the academic program, research, and related activities in the Department of Aeronautical Engineering. A brief description of the development of the institute and its relationship to other centers of higher education in Israel is included. (Author/TS)
