Independent Study Program Evaluation Practices.
Renz, Leland S.
This study was designed to determine what types of evaluation practices are being carried out in schools involved in flexible scheduling and independent study. A questionnaire, designed to determine if a flexibly scheduled school had included the independent study phase of instruction and if an evaluation program for this phase exists, was sent to 149 flexibly scheduled secondary schools in 23 States. Only one school indicated that it was equipped to assess participants in both individual and independent study. The majority of the 26 schools that indicated they had an evaluation program used tests to measure achievement and attitude surveys to determine whether or not students and staff wanted to continue with independent study programs.
