Stamford Curriculum Guide for Drug Abuse Education.
Stamford Public Schools, CT.; Stamford Board of Education, CT.
Utilizing a behavioral approach toward drug problems, this teacher's guide offers a comprehensive curriculum for drug abuse education in grades four through twelve. Specific curriculums are suggested for each of the lower grades--four, five, and six--and general ones for junior high and senior high school grades. Fundamental concepts are presented in the Basic Outline together with pertinent facts to expand the concepts. Corresponding Activities are printed opposite the concepts and facts to facilitate quick reference use in a classroom situation. Pointers on how to use the guide, the behavioral approach, general objectives, and recommendations for the implementation of a drug abuse education program introduce the guide. Appendices include: (1) current laws relating to the control of drugs, (2) a school health service policy and procedure statement relative to drug using students, (3) procedures for school social workers or psychologists to use in dealing with students under the influence of drugs, (4) list of films, (5) report of drug abuse education during the 1969-1970 school year, "Operation Total Awareness," (6) a bibliography of books, pamphlets, and periodicals, (7) addresses for resource materials, and (8) glossary of formal and slang drug abuse terms.
