Fall Enrollment in Higher Education, 1970. Supplementary Information Summary Data.

This study offers information concerning enrollment in U.S. institutions of higher education in Fall 1970 and a comparison of the 1970 data with 1969 enrollment figures. Highlights of the findings include: (1) the final tabulations of enrollment for Fall 1970 show an increase of 7.2% over that for 1969; (2) enrollments in publicly controlled institutions continued to grow faster from 1969 to 1970 than in privately controlled institutions, at 9.0% and 2.2%, respectively; (3) enrollments in private 2-year institutions have substantially declined for the second straight year - down 6.0% from 1969 to 1970, following a 10.4% decline from 1968 to 1969; (4) public 2-year colleges followed a 12.2% gain in enrollment in 1969 with a 13.7% gain in 1970; and (5) the proportion of total enrollment accounted for by full-time students declined from 68.7% in 1969 to 67.8% in 1970.
