This is one of a series of studies on the training, recruitment, and utilization of teachers in member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. This volume deals with the Netherlands and Portugal. The section on the Netherlands (173 pages) has chapters on the demand and supply of teachers, allocations of highly trained manpower, training and qualifications of teachers, recruitment of teachers, social status of teachers and efficiency of teaching. The section on Portugal (138 pages) is in French with no translation. The chapters deal with forecasts of the demand for teachers and measures which should be adopted, the training of teachers, recruitment, salaries, promotion opportunities, and working conditions.
