This directory lists by name and address all public schools functioning as "middle" schools in the United States during 1970-71. Each State superintendent of public instruction provided a current directory or a listing of schools from which the list of 971 middle schools was compiled. For comparative purposes, the findings of two earlier studies are included in a table indicating the number of middle schools by State. The schools are listed alphabetically by and within States.
