Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK, Japan Broadcasting Corporation) is a viewer-supported public broadcasting corporation which currently includes five domestic broadcasting networks consisting of two radio, one FM, and two television networks. Over these networks NHK presents a total of 91.5 hours of broadcasting a day. This pamphlet outlines the aims of the corporation and the structure of its management. It details the types of programing presented by NHK: news, sports, local, educational, and entertainment. The work of Radio Japan, an overseas service operated by NHK, is also described. In addition to producing programs the NHK also keeps up a national radio and television network to facilitate reception throughout the country. Its efforts in this direction for television and radio reception and transmission are described. The work of NHK Technical Research Laboratories, which cover every aspect of broadcasting research, is outlined, as are the various services offered by NHK in the areas of public relations, reception guidance, and overseas cooperation. The pamphlet lists a brief chronology of NHK and a directory of its overseas bureaus. (JY)
