The main purpose of this report is to help novice reviewers accelerate their apprenticeship at the Nuclear Safety Information Center, a computerized information service sponsored by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. Guidelines for reviewers are presented in Part 1; Part 2 contains guidelines for the novice editor. The goal of the reviewers and the editor is to ensure that meaningful correctly indexed abstracts of nuclear-safety information move quickly from the Center to the computer, which is used in making fast literature searches for those who subscribe to its services. Many examples, with comments, are provided to illustrate key points, and the slant is toward useful integration of certain aspects of the jobs so that subscribers can be reasonably satisfied with the literature searches they request.
