Program Classification Structure. Preliminary Edition for Review. WICHE Management Information Systems Program.
Gulko, Warren W.
The primary mission of the WICHE Management Informations Systems Program is to help colleges and universities develop improved management systems and methods of resource allocation. A related aim is to develop procedures which facilitate exchange of comparable data among institutions. A necessary part of such exchanges will be a standard taxonomy or uniform classification system which identifies and categorizes activities and programs of institutions. Together with the WICHE MIS Data Element Dictionaries, the Program Classification Structure provides the basis for developing a common language. Section I discusses the Structure's rationale and relation to various analytical methods. Section II defines the Structure's levels and proposed coding scheme. Sections III and IV provide a detailed description and listing of proposed programs. "This preliminary edition is published and distributed in order to solicit comments and criticism from the entire higher education community." (JS)
