What is the E.Q. (Environmental Quality) of Your School?
Designed for elementary school use, this manual provides teachers with numerous experiments and activities to help children understand and evaluate the surrounding environment. Activities are planned to explore many aspects of the environmental problem. Suggestions for involvement in language arts, social studies, and mathematics are included along with the science activities. Units of study emphasize air pollution, water pollution, litter, land use for school yard and neighborhood, and special problems concerning rat control, odors from factories, vacant houses, junk, and hazards of sidewalks, traffic, and dumps. Each unit offers background information on the subject, learning activities requiring little or no equipment, procedures to carry out the activity and questions to consider following completion of the activity. A summary sheet is also provided listing the major concept or theme of the unit, purpose of the unit, and questions or statements to discuss and investigate while introducing, developing, extending and fixing the concept.
