A Factor Analysis of Professional Education Competencies and Community College Instructors of Trade and Industrial Education.
Gunderson, Orley Donald
The purposes of this study were to determine the common professional competencies needed by community college instructors of trade and industrial education, to determine resemblances of the instructors according to the 99 professional competencies, and to determine differences in the colleges according to the competencies. The data were collected by a questionnaire survey, and the population included 40 community colleges located in four states. A sample of 160 instructors was randomly selected from colleges. The data were analyzed by utilizing analysis of variance and factor analytic techniques. Findings indicated that the instructors resembled one another with regard to values assigned to professional education competencies, that they are not so complex or diverse as had been assumed, that there were no differences among community colleges except in one competency, which was attributed to chance and that the competencies of the instructors which clustered in four factors were meaningful.
