This study was undertaken to provide suggestions for developing an optimum system of training in the apprenticeable trades. Data were obtained from personal interviews and from roughly 9,000 questionnaires which were returned by apprentices, journeymen, instructors, employers, union officials, teacher educators, counselors, training coordinators, and high school students. Recommendations were made with regard to philosophy, recruiting, training, administration, training environment, period of indenture, and adjustment to technological change. (BH)
