The Measurement of Satisfaction in Work and Retirement: A Strategy for the Study of Attitudes.
Smith, Patricia Cain; And Others
A strategy for studying attitudes is developed by analyzing the nature of satisfaction, and, the requirements for its scientifically adequate measurement. A comprehensive set of requirements for sound measurement, rather than just one or two elements, is emphasized. For the academicians, this book serves as an impetus to further research on the nature and correlates of satisfaction. For the practitioner, the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) and the Retirement Descriptive Index (RDI), are provided. Stratified norms along various demographic dimensions, particularly useful in score interpretations, are included for both instruments. It is suggested that this text has value for students of industrial and organizational psychology since it clearly demonstrates the processes of scientific inquiry in its description of the development of the JDI.
