The Assessment of "Self-Concept" in Early Childhood Education.

This paper (1) reviews the literature and examines historically some of the more important theoretical highlights that pertain to both self-as-subject and self-as-object definitions of self, (2) briefly describes and discusses the various assessment approaches designed to assess "self concept" in young children according to a specially developed classificatory schema, (3) enumerates suggestions to aid the future evaluation of children in early childhood education programs.
